Proctorio is an online proctoring/monitoring service for exams and quizzes that can be used with some Aktiv Learning platforms. This support article explains how to use Proctorio including system requirements.
Proctorio may include recording of video, audio, and screen activity or none of the above. The system requirements are dependent on the exam settings.
If you encounter a problem, this could largely be due to system requirements. Please see below if your operating system aligns with the following Proctorio system requirements.
Note: Proctorio generally recommends that test-takers update their systems to the most recent OS possible.

1. Free RAM is the minimum amount of memory that is not in use by other applications.
2. Depends on the exam settings, secure browser has no upload speed requirement.
3. Only required for proctoring, secure browser functionality does not require audio/visual recording.
1. For the best experience, use Google Chrome Browser
-
Download Chrome
-
(Windows version needed: 7, 8, 8.1, 10 or later; Mac version needed: OSX Yosemite 10.10 or later)
2. Download the Proctorio Extension
-
Install the Proctorio browser extension
-
This process only needs to be done once and the extension will update automatically.
3. Must have a reliable internet connection
-
The proctoring software streams data from your computer to their servers and back. In order to allow continuous exam data transfer, your bandwidth (upload speed) must meet the proctoring services requirements (greater than 1.0 Mbps/US national average is 9.4 Mbps).
-
Test your bandwidth (upload speed) here: https://www.speedtest.net.
-
Add the “speed test” extension to test your internet speed.
-
An unstable connection may cause you to be disconnected from the exam and prevent your exam from being graded.
4. Photo identification (driver's license, passport, or government-issued ID)
5. A quiet, comfortable location to take the exam (headphone/earphones are not permitted)
If your system does not meet these requirements try these steps:
-
Use a private network when taking a proctored exam.
-
Turn off any programs that can consume a lot of bandwidth (e.g., BitTorrent, Netflix, video gaming systems, etc.)
-
Avoid WiFi interference. Take your exam using a wired (Ethernet) connection. If that is not possible, move closer to the router for best performance.
-
2GB free ram is needed to ensure good internet connectivity. We recommend that you clear your cache and cookies which will help free up some ram and assist with overall internet connectivity. To clear your cache and cookies see below:
